The Affordable Bed Frame Our Community Can't Stop Talking About

The Bed Threads team gets asked countless questions on a daily basis about linen care, bed styling, and our favourite bedroom pieces. One of the most frequently asked questions that gets thrown our way time and time again when we share a bedroom image on Instagram is: "Where is that bed frame from?". Our wonderful community is referring to one design in particular that we use in many of our campaign shoots.

When it comes to great bedroom design, a good bed frame can make all the difference. It's not just an investment piece that helps provide you with a good night's rest by supporting your mattress, but it also can be a reflection of your design aesthetic, and enhance the overall appeal of your space.

Which bed frame is everyone talking about?

The bed frame our community can't stop talking about is Ikea's 'MALM' in white stained oak veneer.

Why does everyone love the Ikea MALM bed frame?

The reason we love this bed frame and use it in so many of our shoots is because it's simple yet chic, timeless, and looks great with all of our linen colourways - We're yet to find a colour combination it doesn't look great with. And not to mention this frame is incredibly affordable, starting at just $329, depending on your size and bed base style.

The white stained oak vaneer MALM will work with most bedroom looks but will particularly suit spaces that lean toward being minimal, coastal, contemporary, or Scandinavian in style. If the stain doesn't work for your space but you love the design, it's also available in white, brown-stained ash vaneer, and black brown.

How to choose the right bed frame for you

There are a few things you need to consider before purchasing a bed frame. These include: The size of your bedroom, wether you're in need of extra storage space, the style of your bedroom, preferred materials, and ensuring that it's sturdy.

Storage: If you live in a small home and require extra storage for bedding or clothing, opting for a bed frame that has built-in drawers is the way to go. If you're a fan of MALM, Ikea has an option to add bed storage boxes to the design.

Size: Picking the right size bed frame is also crucial. As much as we might want to squeeze in a queen size bed, if your space is small opting for a double is probably the way to go to prevent your room looking crowded.

Slats: Bed frames are designed to support your mattress and aid in getting a better night's sleep. When you look for a bed frame, make sure the slat system is sturdy. Some bed frames also have central support legs for added strength. This can be especially helpful on king size beds.

Style: What style is your bedroom? If its mid-century you should look toward darker wood stains, if it's more eclectic, look to a wicker design. Keeping your desired bedroom style front of mind will be extremely helpful in helping you select a suitable bed frame.
