Inside the Living Rooms of Australia's Most Stylish Women

When it comes to styling a home, it's hard to know where to begin. With so many different interior styles and time periods to be inspired byScandi, mid century, contemporary—creating a cohesive theme throughout your home is tricky business. But narrowing your focus down to just one room to start with can help. And we recommend the living room as your jump-off point.

Aside from your bedroom, the living room is where you'll spend the most time in your home. From watching television, scrolling Instagram or listening to music, it generally all goes down in there. The lounge is also where you'll entertain guests, so you want it to make a solid impression for family and friends.

To inspire your living room decor, we've asked some of the most stylish Australian women to share their spaces. From emerald velvet couches, vintage Perspex coffee tables and statement artworks, each one is completely unique and totally enviable.

Below, we asked these stylish Australians to share how their style is reflected in their home, and to share what some of their favourite pieces mean to them. Let your living room Pinterest board begin.

Tash Sefton

"[My home is] a place my family can just be without having any "too precious" pieces my kids cant use. It's not a staged catalogue living environment. Instead, it's filled with memories, treasures, and lots of art. It has a warmth to it.

People know me for my fashion style, and I feel how I dress comes across in my home too. I love high-end designer fashion brands for their beauty and quality but like to mix it up—high street with high-end. This allows me to avoid being trendy or coming off too branded. I like to be able to mix classics with vintage with trends with basics. This is how I style our home, too. It’s the same concept."

Alexandria Park

"There’s definitely a consistent theme across the styling within our home. We always knew the aesthetic we wanted to achieve; minimal, clean and modern with a traditional twist. Ultimately, I wanted to ensure my artworks complemented the space and in the same regard, I wanted the space to perfectly frame the art. The space doubles as a personal showroom and the neutral colour palette and tonal hues serve this purpose beautifully. Our home evokes a sense of serenity, not dissimilar to an art gallery.

The lounge is definitely my favourite [room] with its beautiful natural lighting. It has quickly become our spot to relax in. We like to soak in the sunlight whilst reading, catching up on emails or watching some sneaky Netflix from time to time. It’s hard to get up from the couch once we’ve settled in."

Lillian Khallouf

"I wanted [my home] to reflect my personality and style. It features minimal furniture with quirky accents like the retro mirror and colourful artwork."

Ashleigh Holmes

"I wanted to create an area that was light and gave me clarity. So the design is white and simplistic so it doesn’t interfere with the artworks themselves."

Alison Rice

"My overall aesthetic is warm tones, luxurious textures and a modern take on Mid Century.

I love our lounge room because that’s where we come together at the end of the day to talk, touch and enjoy a home cooked meal. Our apartment isn’t big enough for a dining table so we just eat on the lounge and it’s perfect.

I am obsessed with our handmade coffee table from Mitchell Road Auction House. I go picking alone a lot to unwind and connect with the past, and our coffee table is by far my favourite find. I also adore our deep red velvet Lounge Lovers armchair, and our Josh Robenstone prints. He’s a friend of Tony’s and we love supporting his work. The two photos we have hanging above the lounge were actually taken five years apart but I think they work together so beautifully."

Dina Broadhurst

"[My interior style is] creative, eclectic, minimal and contemporary. [One of my favourite pieces is] a vintage clear Perspex coffee table that houses and displays all my favourite books. This was was given to me by a friend. I love collecting mid-century, vintage furniture—just like I would art—for its sculptural and material elements."

Kerrie-Ann Jones

"Although I use a lot of colour in my styling work, I wanted to come home to a space that was neutral and simple. So the colour palette I have at home are all neutral tones. I'm inspired by many styles of interiors, including classic, industrial and Scandi. I've tried to blend these styles together in a cohesive way by using oak timber flooring throughout, black steel frame doors and balustrade, and marble herringbone tiles in the bathrooms.

Our living room is one of my favourite rooms in the house because of all the special family memories we have created here. [My favourite piece is] a bargain Gumtree findour vintage travertine coffee table! It was such a score."

Talisa Sutton

"[Our home is] a mixture of Scandinavian minimalism and relaxed, coastal style which almost mirrors how I dress. I wanted our home to be a mixture of new and vintage pieces, with objects we have collected both locally and on our travels mixed through. It was important for us to feel like it reflected our style (we're both minimalists at heart) without feeling too stark or gallery-like.

My favourite room is our living room. I love the light and reading to our daughter on our lounge."
