1. Simone Haag's weekender
The interior designer travels to this weekender whenever she and her family need a break from urban life, which is exactly the vibe the bedroom portrays. Her sleep sanctuary exudes comfort and warmth through carefully curated colours and decor items.
"I would never style a room where there’s just a bed against a wall. I always like to have my stacks of books, ceramics or a jewellery bowl behind me so a lodge behind my bed is a non-negotiable," she says.
"Moreover, I always like artwork and it can’t just be a single piece of art over a bed - I always like mixed medium artwork so combining tapestries with ceramics, paper mache, paintings and photographs."
2. Dani Klaric's Playful Apartment
The primary bedroom within Dani Klaric's home is more pared-back than other rooms. She has selected a colour palette that brings her a sense of calm and comfort. The sophisticated space is clad in Terracotta, Rosewater, and Turmeric linen paired with a plush rug and gold accents. The overall aesthetic is welcoming and makes for a cosy spot to start and end her day.
"One of the first things you should think about is the paint colour for your bedroom. It’s crazy how much a painted wall can change in a room. It's an easy way to change the entire vibe and make a room feel complete. And always choose from colours that bring you a sense of calm and comfort," she says.
3. Tim Neve's Coastal Airbnb
The primary bedroom in Tim Neve's coastal Airbnb is perhaps best described as a wing of the home as it features a walk-in robe, double bathroom, and lounge room that runs the full width of the home. Tim's woven 'Wave' bedhead makes for a chic backdrop to the Cacao and Hazelnut bedding.
"I love mixing bed linens to create my own schemes – opting for tactile organic textures. A lot of the time if I fall in love with a new linen colourway I’ll just buy a set of pillowcases first to try the colour in the interior. I hate ‘matchy matchy’ so this is a great way to break the predictable formula," he shares with Bed Threads Journal.
4. Ella Barba’s Neutral-Toned Rental
Ella Barba's welcoming abode is swathed in lashings of creams, whites, and tans, uplifted by various textures and shapely furniture. Enter her bedroom and you are greeted with Oatmeal linen that makes the space a soothing oasis to retreat to each evening. A curved bouclé armchair and marble bedside table rest on a woven rug.
"Beautiful bedding will transform the bedroom no matter what the space is like," she says.
5. Tali Roth
Interior designer Tali Roth loves a “chic and serene” sleeping space, which she achieves by keeping the clutter away. Her top tips for styling a bedroom are to “have sufficient storage” to ensure there is no “visual clutter”, opt for neutral colours – “light or dark, depending on personal taste" - and prefers a clean, matching Bed Threads linen set in White. Oh, and the most important of all? “Make your bed every morning,” she enthuses. “It’s a must!”
6. Loui Burke's Wabi-Sabi Home
As someone who works in the interior design space, it’s unsurprising that Loui Burke has a stylish home. The zen space presents a successful homage to wabi-sabi, the Japanese philosophy of finding beauty in the imperfect. The building’s industrial warehouse design is warmed up by an aesthetic that features neutral tones and a materials palette of timber, jute, linen, and hammered brass. “What lacks in colour, I like to think I make up for in texture,” he says. His bedroom is swathed in calming Mineral & Fog linen which helps transform it into the ultimate zen retreat.
7. Josh and Jenna Densten
The crafty couple from The Block's home has a bedroom that's flooded with natural light, textural finishings to create depth and a premium fee, and an overwhelming sense of warmth and comfort. It's minimal without being boring, and colourful without being startling. Jenna's top bedroom tip is to design and style the space based on the feeling you want to create.
"I’m all about calm vibes because my life is well, hectic," Jenna explains. "For me, a calming interior is all about a neutral colour palette where I feel most at ease, but for you, it might be blues or greens."
8. Sarah Shinner's Maximalist Home
Interior designer Sarah Shiner's Melbourne rental is maximalist yet refined, and the primary bedroom is nothing short of scroll-stopping. The walls are swathed in a warm gold hue which makes the space feel cosy and cocooning. This is beautifully offset by Lilac linen which injects further colour into the space and a fresh touch. "For me, a well-styled space is one that is thoughtful and unique but also functional and that evolves over time with the person inhabiting the space," she explains.
