And while the interior design world, like fashion, tends to operate in cycles, some things never go out of style, and these are the trends to put your money behind.

But don’t take our word for it — we called on the experts. Here, interior designer Jessica Viscarde from Eclectic Creative and Cassie Braunthal, senior property stylist at Bungalow Home, reveal their top picks for the timeless interior design trends worth investing in.

From materials that age like fine wine to the colour cues worth taking, read on to see them all.

1. Natural materials

One of the biggest pluses of working with high-quality natural materials? They wear well and look even better with time.

“Stone, timber, linen, and wool are foundations in our work. They not only age beautifully, but bring warmth and texture to a space,” Viscarde tells Bed Threads Journal.

“A honed marble bench top, solid timber dining table, linen bedding, or natural fibre rug can ground a home in both comfort and sophistication, regardless of style era.”

2. Vintage lighting

In photography, good lighting can make all the difference, and the same rule applies to interiors. If you’re after timeless, consider vintage options for an old-world charm.

“Vintage lighting instantly adds soul to a space. A well-chosen sconce or sculptural floor lamp brings in warmth, history and that perfectly undone touch,” says Braunthal.

“I’m often drawn to mid-century European designs for their playful yet refined silhouettes. They help a space feel layered and lived in.”

3. Architectural integrity

If you want your place to have a classic and cohesive quality about it, try to work with the existing style of the space rather than against it, Viscarde explains.

“We always look at the bones of the house — whether it's a 1920s apartment or a contemporary build — and respond to what's already there,” she says.

“Preserving original cornices and period details or infusing a modern home with character and understated textural finishes and layers allows us to honour the past while designing for modern living.”

4. Textured Walls

Echoing Viscarde’s take on architectural integrity, Braunthal emphasises the enduring appeal of textured walls.

“From Venetian plaster to other tactile wall finishes, textured walls have a timeless ability to add depth and warmth. They invite you to feel the space, not just see it. I love how they tell a story, whether rustic or refined, and give any room a quiet confidence and character,” she says.

5. Mid-Century Modern

Known for its practical wooden pieces, geometric lines and funky lighting, mid-century modern design is a forever favourite for good reason, Braunthal notes.

“It brings warmth through timber tones, clean lines that keep things feeling sophisticated, and a homely, grounded energy,” she says.

“The style evolves effortlessly with the times. There’s always a timber finish or colour palette that makes it feel fresh without losing its essence!”

6. Built-in joinery

According to Viscarde, considered joinery is a hallmark of timeless interiors and a worthwhile investment.

“From integrated bookshelves to window seats or a shaker-style kitchen, thoughtful built-in joinery adds character and functionality, standing the test of time better than fast furniture,” she says.

“We find that in smaller or awkward spaces, built-in cabinetry is best as it provides the ability to utilise every millimetre and customise a functional and beautiful outcome.”

7. A muted, layered colour palette

Rather than trend-driven colours, go for favour tonal, layered palettes inspired by nature and materiality, says Viscarde.

“Muted greens, dusty blues, warm neutrals, chalky whites, aged brass, and warm timber tones create depth and longevity,” she tells Bed Threads Journal.

8. Subtle textural layering

Per Viscarde, mixing textures like linen with bouclé or stone with timber creates a homely warmth and richness that lasts.

“There’s nothing quite like the feeling of a room that wraps you up in softness and subtle contrasts. Just like we layer clothing in winter, homes feel most inviting when we layer materials with intention,” she adds.

9. Quality and second-hand finds

Investing in well-crafted, enduring pieces ensures longevity and reduces the need for frequent replacements. In short? Buy once — love forever.
