5 Colours Set To Dominate Interiors This Season, According to Pinterest

Whether it’s wall paint, bedding, furniture, or homewares, these are the shades set to take over.

It’s official: colour is making a comeback. And not the quiet reunion kind – this is a confident, emotional, full-volume return. After years of hushed neutrals and “safe” colour schemes, Pinterest’s 2026 Palette suggests people are ready to feel something again when they walk into a room. And according to millions of searches and saves on the platform, the shades we’re craving do more than decorate: they reset the mood.

“People are definitely embracing colour and creating personalised, unique spaces that reflect who they are,” says Jessica Bellef, a photographer, writer and former interior stylist. “I see more people experimenting with speciality wall finishes and textures – like limewash paint, Venetian plaster and microcement. It’s such an effective way to combine colour and texture to create bespoke spaces with really intriguing depth and dimension.”

Furnishings, too, are taking on a vibrant tint in our interiors. “It’s also colour by way of pattern, with injections of amazing wallpaper, upholstery and rugs.”

As for the rules Jessica employs for colour-play? “No rules!” she says. “I go with what I love and what strikes the sweet-spot balance of soothing calm and inspired energy.”

A fan of timber and natural materials, Jessica currently lives in a ‘70s-era house with original wood panelling. “This forms a beautiful, organic foundation for the colours I am drawn to. Too much colour overwhelms me, so the natural textures and finishes keep things grounded.” Artwork, too, imbues her spaces with colour dimension. “I feel it’s such a vital part of making a house a home.”

As for Pinterest’s predicted lineup this year, the finalists – Cool Blue, Jade, Plum Noir, Wasabi and Persimmon – are a study in emotional utility. Think: calm that feels clarifying, warmth that reads optimistic, and rich tones designed to spark imagination at home (rather than feel claustrophobic). If 2025 was about restraint, 2026 is about turning the colour dial way back up.

Here, we asked Jessica how she interprets and plays with the hues of the season.

Cool Blue

Perhaps the quietest of the five, Cool Blue is understated but far from shy. Pinterest describes it as “subzero sophistication”: the kind of frosted, steely blue that instantly calms a room without drifting into coastal cliché.

How to use it at home

This is a hue that thrives in texture. Think: pale blue cotton sheets, matte ceramic lamps, brushed steel accents, or chalky paint on a bedroom wall. “This pretty palette really pops when anchored with other colours and textures; light blues on their own can look washed out,” Jessica advises. “I love seeing these blue shades paired with deep reds and maroons to counteract the iciness.”

Jade

Jade is the serene, elegant counterpoint to 2026’s louder shades. Somewhere between moss and mint, it’s a grounded green with a luxe edge – a shade that feels both calming and quietly glamorous.

How to use it at home

Jade works beautifully across materials: linen, stone, glass, tiles, timber. It suits bathrooms (spa energy), kitchens (earthy freshness), and bedrooms (restorative calm). Pair it with natural textures – rattan, cane, raw oak – or contrast with crisp white for a cleaner, gallery-like effect. “So fresh, so clean,” muses Jessica. “I can see it working in bathrooms – especially as a handmade tile – and in a soft, serene bedroom.”

Plum Noir

The anti-neutral. Plum Noir is deep, decadent, and intentionally dramatic – a moody blend of burgundy, velvet brown, and rich purple that Pinterest calls “for the plot.” This is a shade with presence, perfect for anyone ready to lean into atmosphere.

How to use it at home

In bedrooms or living rooms, Plum Noir plays beautifully with warm lighting, tactile linens, velvet upholstery, walnut timbers, and antique accents. Even a single piece – a throw, cushion, lamp, or artwork – can shift the energy of a neutral room. If you’re looking for a real embrace of the shade, Jessica suggests going all out: “Colour-drench a room in these dramatic plummy shades,” she says. “Keep the rest of the furnishing and styling elements in dark tones to emphasise the moodiness.”

Wasabi

If 2026 needs a wake-up call, Wasabi is it. This high-voltage chartreuse is sharp and unapologetically bold – the colour equivalent of a wheatgrass shot.

How to use it at home

“I'm guessing Wasabi is the evolution of Brat Summer green!” says Jessica, who advises that the shade works best as a punctuation mark, not a paragraph. “I would use this palette sparingly in my own home, as the lime-yellow base could look sickly.” Think small accents that spark joy: a sculptural vase, a striped cushion (“I do love the idea of a lush Wasabi-hued velvet throw cushion or armchair commanding attention in the corner of a room”), a statement towel, or a playful piece of wall art. It also works surprisingly well alongside warm neutrals or dark woods, where the contrast feels intentional rather than chaotic.

Persimmon

Joy personified. Persimmon is warm, bright, and optimistic – the colour of citrus peel, terracotta sunsets, and every “good mood” object in your home. Pinterest calls it “sweet heat,” and that’s exactly how it lands.

How to use it at home

“Bright orange is tricky to work into interiors, but shades of orange that lean into red can be chic,” says Jessica. “I can see orange-red paired with creamy whites and used as a bold accent colour. In the right setting, window and door trims painted in Persimmon tones would look amazing.”
