This Is What Happens to Your Body When You Get Acupuncture Monthly

The benefits of acupuncture are almost endless when it comes to looking after your body as well as your mind. We've previously covered how these treatments can help with stress and anxiety and even help to improve sleep with the help of Lauren Curtain, Women's Health Acupuncturist and Chinese Medicine Practitioner. Since it's a new year and we're keen on prioritising our personal wellbeing, we chatted to Lauren again about the benefits of receiving acupuncture monthly to kickstart your health this year.

Lauren told us that the frequency of acupuncture treatments vary from patient to patient and are determined based on the type of help they're seeking from their health professional. She typically will start new patients off on a weekly treatment schedule to accelerate results, eventually moving to fortnightly and then monthly. Once Lauren is confident that a patient is healing well and is able to maintain their condition without regression, treatments may be spread out to every three months.

When asked whether or not there's any harm in receiving regular acupuncture treatments, Lauren told us that as a part of Chinese tradition, many people get acupuncture daily. Again, the frequency of the treatments are very specific to your needs and goals however there are no side effects to acupuncture which makes it one of our favourite health treatments. If you're looking for a new and restorative form of self-care this year, designating time to focus on your health and wellbeing in the form of acupuncture is a great start.

When it comes to the most common outcomes patients are looking to gain from acupuncture, Lauren lists support with hormone imbalances. period pain, headaches, fatigue, stress and sleep issues amongst a long list. Acupuncture has a regulating effect on the body's organ systems, so it's possible for these trained specialists to work on a variety of different parts of your body (and mind). The reason that Lauren suggests her patients return regularly is that she's witnessed the best results when the body is given a kick start, and typically by the third of fourth treatment her patients see a significant improvement in the symptoms. If you're still on the fence about trying acupuncture, you should view it as a holistic way to assess and treat any imbalances or irregularities in the body in a natural, healing way.

If you are concerned about your health, wellbeing or sleep, your first port of call should be your GP, who will advise a correct treatment plan.
