8 Simple Steps to Making the Perfect Bed Like an Expert

1. Clean your mattress

Start with a clean mattress. Here’s a complete guide on how to clean a mattress.

2. (Optional) Dress your bed base with your valance

Remove the mattress from the bed base to do this. Place the valance over the bed base so the corner and edges align. Place your mattress back on top of your dressed bed base.

3. Fit your mattress protector

Lay down your mattress protector over your mattress, ensuring to secure it tightly so it stays in place.

4. Secure your fitted sheet

Place your fitted sheet over the mattress cover and smooth it out.

If you’re using a flat sheet as your fitted sheet, start by tucking the sides of the bed first and then the end of the bed towards the front. This will ensure that when you tuck in the corners at the ends of the bed, it’ll create a triangle like you’re wrapping a present.

5. Add your flat sheet

All flat sheets are placed right-side-down so when you fold over the top, the border design – or finished seam – is visible.

6. Now for your duvet

Slip your duvet into its cover and drape it over. To put a duvet cover on, follow these eight easy steps:

1. Turn the duvet cover inside out.

2. Lay the duvet cover on the bed with the opening at the foot of the bed.

3. Lay the duvet on top of the duvet cover.

4. From the bottom of the bed, work your hands inside the duvet cover, up towards the top corners. Then grab each cover corner with the duvet’s top corners and flip the cover right side out and over the top corners of the duvet.

5. Gently shake the duvet cover down and over the rest of the duvet, holding the duvet cover in place as you proceed.

6. Close the cover at the base of the bed.

7. Straighten and fluff the duvet by giving the whole duvet and cover a shake.

8. Fold down the top sheet and duvet from the top of the bed about a quarter way down or to your likely.

7. Dress your bed with your pillows

Place your pillows in their cases and fluff them. Place two of your standard pillowcases or both European pillowcases leaning against the bed’s headboard (or lie them flat at the top of your bed). Then, place the remaining two pillows in front or on top.

8. Drape your throw

Drape your throw across the end of the bed for a finishing touch.
