10 Shows to Watch If You Loved 'Emily in Paris'

From 'Younger' to 'Girls', you'll love these series just as much.

Whether you binge-watched it in earnest or it was your guilty pleasure right to the bitter end, we're thankful that Netflix's hit TV show Emily in Paris gave us a bit of escapism is these uncertain times. If you're looking for more lighthearted comedy dramas to watch, you've come to the right place.

From sugary workplace dramedies to big-city rom-coms, and that one *marvellous* series set in New York with a once-off Paris sojourn, here are ten TV shows to watch if you loved Emily in Paris.

1. The Bold Type

Inspired by the life of former Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief Joanna Coles, The Bold Type is set at the NYC offices of the fictional "Scarlet" magazine. Jane, Kat and Sutton are three best friends working at the mag, navigating their careers and love lives in the big apple. It's a well-worn formula, done well, which is why it's consistently received positive reviews since it debuted in 2017.

2. Younger

If you loved Emily in Paris, you'll love Younger. With Sex and the City creator Darren Star at the helm, Younger is a highly watchable comedy-drama series with a bit of a twist.

Based on the synonymous 2005 novel by Pamela Redmon Satran, the series follows a 40-year-old divorcée who lies about her age to land an entry-level publishing job—in New York City, obv. Posing as a 27-year-old, Liza (played by Sutton Foster of Bunheads fame) finds out that living a lie isn't quite as easy as she'd hoped. With Hillary Duff, Debi Mazar and Miriam Shor rounding out the cast wonderfully, you'll probably binge the show's six seasons in no time.

3. Sex and the City

At once a standard-setting archetype and outdated relic, Sex and the City is a pop-cultural icon that set the tone for years of television that followed. Creator Darren Star (who also created Emily in Paris and Younger, as well as '90s hits Beverly Hills 90210 and Melrose Place) is most famous for this turn-of-the-century romantic comedy-drama hit.

With Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon playing the lead characters (and New York City herself as the show's fifth main character, of course), SATC gave us six seasons of iconic quotes and outfit inspo.

4. Gossip Girl

If you loved the fashion on Emily in Paris and have seen Gossip Girl, you absolutely must push this iconic stylish series to the top of your watch list. This teen drama-comedy based on the book series of the same name follows the lives of privileged teens at a posh Upper East Side private school and their problematic (for the most part) parents.

Narrated by an anonymous blogger, there's also a whole lot of old-internet fodder to enjoy, plus plenty of melodramatic rich-kid teen angst, but really it's the costumes that keep drawing you back in. Are you a Blair or a Serena? That's the question you'll be asking yourself during the show's six seasons.

5. The Queen's Gambit

This new miniseries is based on a 1983 Water Tevis novel of the same name and stars the highly watchable Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch), who has already garnered universal acclaim for her performance. She plays Beth Harmon, a young chess player determined to become the greatest in the world. Beth is an orphan and a prodigy, and struggles with drugs and alcohol during her adolescence. It's a more serious, and a more riveting than Emily in Paris, but the impeccable costuming and period sets—it's set in the '50s and '60s—will meet your aesthetic needs, and then some.

6. Girls

If you watched Emily in Paris and managed to be unbothered by Emily as a character, you will definitely enjoy Girls. While it's gotten plenty of flack over the years, namely for its lack of diversity, there's plenty to enjoy in this seminal HBO series.

Created by Lena Dunham and partly inspired by her own life, the show follows four young women navigating life in Brooklyn, New York. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll identify which Girl you are, and you'll probably grow to love to hate and hate to love Hannah and her millennial co-horts.

7. Sweetbitter

Based on the novel by Stephanie Danler, Sweetbitter follows Tess, who lands a job at a swanky downtown restaurant in New York City. Thrust into a world of partying, she attempts to navigate adulthood as best she can. While Sweetbitter was cancelled after two seasons, you'll enjoy watching the exploits of this young woman in the NYC hospitality season.

8. Hart of Dixie

The OC's Rachel Bilson stars in this wholesome fish-out-of-water comedy-drama series. She plays a heart surgeon from New York City who inherits an Alabama medical practice from a father she never knew (her mother had an affair while engaged to the man she always knew as her dad).

Her big-city persona finds itself at odds with the genteel southerners in the small town of Bluebell, and of course she encounters new friends and potential love matches along the way. Like Emily in Paris, it's simple and full of clichés, but with its warm and cosy visuals and endlessly pleasant lead actor, there's a lot to love.

9. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Set in the 1950s and '60s, this premium series follows a New York City housewife with a knack for stand-up comedy. Created by Amy Sherman-Palladino (Gilmore Girls) there's plenty of fast-talking banter, but what you'll really love is the incredible costuming and set design.

With parts of the series set in Paris and award-winning performances from its stars (Rachel Brosnahan who plays the titular Mrs Maisel and Alex Borstein who plays her manager, Susie) you will be delighted with each of this show's spectacular episodes.

10. Love Life

If you're looking for more charming-brunette-struggles-through-life-in-the-big-city content, Love Life is for you. The first season of this lighthearted anthology series debuted in 2020, with Anna Kendrick playing the lead, Darby, a woman in her 20s who has always struggled to maintain meaningful romantic relationships.

If you're looking for easy breezy (and we know you are) definitely add this one to your list. Each episode covers a different relationship between Darby and her potential significant others, and if you enjoyed Emily in Paris you'll love Love Life.
