Off the back of recent hits like Pearl, MaXXXine, and Infinity Pool, horror darling Mia Goth stars alongside Australia’s own Jacob Elordi in Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic tale. Far from his typecast as a brooding heartthrob, Elordi will take on the role of Frankenstein’s monster in this Netflix-produced title. With acclaimed films like The Shape of Water, Pinocchio, and Pan’s Labyrinth, del Toro has cemented himself as the master of the creature feature – so we have high hopes for this one.

Even if you didn’t watch the 2024 adaptation of her bestseller It Ends With Us – you probably know about it. Now, her 2019 novel Regretting You is getting an adaptation from indie studio Constantin Film, with The Fault in Our Stars filmmaker Josh Boone directing. The story explores a messy mother-daughter relationship between characters Morgan and Clara, who are forced to come together to navigate grief and loss. In 1982, a novella called The Running Man was published by Richard Bachman. It explored a dystopian future in which America exists under a totalitarian regime where violent game shows placate the oppressed masses. Horrifying, right? That’s because a few years after its publication, it was revealed that Stephen King had written the story under a pseudonym. With a perfectly timed release, the book – which was set in 2025 – is getting a (second) film adaptation, this time starring Glen Powell alongside William H. Macy, Josh Brolin, Katy O’Brian, Lee Pace, Michael Cera and Emilia Jones. With Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Baby Driver) directing, it’s sure to be fast-paced, satirical, and wildly entertaining.

Another Colleen Hoover novel getting the screen treatment is her 2018 psychological thriller Verity – a dark departure from her usual romance and drama fare. The feature film reunites Anne Hathaway and director Michael Showalter, the duo behind The Idea of You, with Hathaway taking on the role of Verity Crawford. The story follows struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh, who is hired to finish a popular book series after Verity, its original author, suffers a mysterious accident. But when Lowen discovers an unfinished manuscript that may reveal disturbing secrets about the Crawford family, things take a sinister turn. With a plot full of blurred truths and buried lies – and a cast that includes Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett – Verity has all the ingredients of a twisty, slow-burn thriller.
