8 Shows To Watch If You Can’t Get Enough Of 'Euphoria'

Season two might be over, but we’ve found a replacement for all your 'Euphoria' cravings.

If you, like us, are counting down the days until Zendaya’s tour-de-force television series Euphoria – also starring Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, Maude Apatow and Jacob Elordi – returns to screens for a third season, we have just the article for you.

We’ve rounded up some of the best television shows, new and old, that will help soothe some of those Euphoria withdrawal symptoms you might be experiencing. We’re talking high school series with plenty of drama, action and high stakes to tide you over until your favourite HBO television show is back on streaming.

Here is the best of the bunch.

1. Yellowjackets

Yellowjackets is a high-concept show with a killer attitude: what if, en route to a major football tournament, a plane carrying a star high school team crashed somewhere in the Canadian wilderness? And what if in the present day, some of the survivors of the crash are being blackmailed over what, exactly, happened while they were stranded in the middle of nowhere? Yellowjackets is a twisted and addictive show that has a split timeline between the ‘90s, when a cast of great young actors including Sophie Nelisse, Ella Purnell, Courtney Eaton and Sophie Thatcher attempt to survive by any means possible out in the woods, and the present day, where a crew of survivors played by Melanie Lynskey, Juliette Lewis and Christina Ricci – does it get better than that? – are trying to solve the mystery of their blackmail. This series is dark, juicy and full of twists, and is a great Euphoria stand-in, especially during the ‘90s flashback scenes. A second season is coming to Paramount+ soon.

2. Sex Education

If you’re a fan of Euphoria, you’re probably already a fan of Sex Education, but we’re including it on this list anyway, just in case. Sex Education is lowkey some of the best television on Netflix: it’s smart, funny, stylish and very sexy, a show about high schoolers as they learn who they are and where they stand in the world. Like Euphoria, it’s anchored by a great cast of young actors who have fantastic chemistry with each other, especially the two leads Otis (Asa Butterfield) and Eric (Ncuti Gatwa, recently announced as the new Doctor Who), who have the kind of friendship everyone wanted in high school. And just like Euphoria, Sex Education has high production values, a great soundtrack, excellent costumes and gorgeous framing. We love this show. Three seasons are available on Netflix now, with a fourth and fifth in the works.

3. Gossip Girl

The OG and maybe still some of the best high school television out there, we recommend going back and doing a re-watch of the original Gossip Girl for the nostalgia alone. It might not be as gritty as Euphoria, but what it lacks in realism it more than makes up for in drama, high stakes and intensity, given the soap opera-level schemes unfolding in season one alone. The reboot is watchable too, but there’s nothing like the original, especially if what you’re looking for is a teen drama with real sex appeal – never forget, Gossip Girl stars Blake Lively and Penn Badgley dated for several years while making this show – and naughtiness.

4. Elite

This Spanish Netflix series has a seriously devoted online following, largely courtesy of its gorgeous cast and sexy antics. The show follows a few working class friends who find themselves enrolled in a super-exclusive and ritzy private school, a premise that is beloved of high school series the world over. (Gossip Girl, Gilmore Girls, Saved By The Bell, need we go on?) But Elite’s secret weapon is its comedy and humour, its genre credibility – oh yeah, there’s also a murder mystery going on in Elite – as well as it’s well-documented and screengrabbed raunch, which makes it a great partner to Euphoria. Elite is a show that knows it is a melodrama and leans all the way into it. Enjoy.

5. The Society

Just like Euphoria, The Society has a stacked cast of exciting young actors. There’s Olivia DeJonge (now starring in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis), Natasha Liu Bordizzo (about to be in a new Disney+ Star Wars series), Kristine Froseth, Toby Wallace, and Gideon Adlon, just to name a few. But unlike Euphoria, The Society has more of a high concept plotline, in which teens return home from a camping trip to discover all the adults of their town have disappeared. At first, it’s all parties, lawlessness and good times – until danger and mystery begin to encroach on this adult-free idyll. How will the kids make it through? The Society is addictive, binge-worthy viewing.

6. Everything I Know About Love

Yes, Everything I Know About Love focuses on characters who are a little older than the high schoolers we see on Euphoria. But the spirit of this series, which celebrates hedonism, good times, good vibes and being yourself, is very similar. Based on the beloved, bestselling Dolly Alderton book of the same name, this show follows a quartet of 24-year-old girlfriends flatting together for the first time in London and muddling their way through sex, dating, relationships, friendship and career. It’s a beautiful time capsule of the year 2012, a love letter to friendship and will make you want to gather up your best friends and hit the town for a night out.

7. The Sex Lives Of College Girls

Another series looking at characters a little older than Euphoria, The Sex Lives of College Girls focuses on, well, college girls. This HBO Max series – you can find it on Binge in Australia – is very funny, written and created by Mindy Kaling and with a great cast including star Pauline Chalamet. (Yes, Timothee’s sister). It’s a sex positive take on dating in your late teens and early 20s at university, and we think it’s a pretty great post-Euphoria watch.

8. Derry Girls

It’s not easy being 16 – especially in Northern Ireland during the Troubles and attending a very Catholic school. But the girls of Derry Girls make revisiting adolescence seem like one raucous, sweary, sexual innuendo-heavy thrill ride, which is why we love this show so much. You can binge the whole thing on Netflix now, and keep your eyes peeled for star Nicola Coughlan in one of her earliest, pre-Bridgerton roles.
