New years are all about fresh starts, and here at Bed Threads, we’re kicking off 2025 with something we’re all excited about – new movies.

Whether you’re the type to queue up for midnight premieres in your comfiest pyjamas, or you prefer to binge-watch from the comfort of your bed as soon as they hit streaming platforms, there’s something undeniably magical about the thrill of watching a brand-new film unfold.

1. The Amateur

Prepare for a heart-pounding, edge-of-your-seat ride! The upcoming American action-thriller The Amateur, based on Robert Littell's electrifying 1981 novel, is poised to redefine the genre. Starring Rami Malek as Charlie Heller, a CIA photographer whose life shatters in the wake of a devastating terrorist attack in London that claims the life of his wife, this film explodes with raw emotion, razor-sharp tension, and relentless action. 2. Avatar: Fire and Ash

3. Ballerina

From the action-packed world of John Wick, comes the neo-noir action thriller Ballerina. Directed by Len Wiseman and written by Shay Hatten, this is the fifth film in the John Wick franchise, serving as a spin-off set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4. Ballerina follows a young assassin (Ana de Armas) with killer skills who seeks revenge against the people who murdered her family. Expect pirouettes, arabesques and a whole lot of action. This is the kind of movie that will have you walking out of the cinema shadowboxing invisible enemies all the way home.

4. Better Man

2025 is proving to be the year of musicals with British pop superstar Robbie Williams’ biopic starring none other than himself… as a monkey. Emphasis is placed on how Robbie has always felt different to everyone else, which explains why he takes on such a primal role in the film. From his early days growing up with dreams of becoming famous, to becoming one of the biggest international solo male popstars, this creative take on the classic biopic is sure to get you crying, dancing, and scratching your head in disarray at the primate protagonist.

5. The Bride!

A spine-tingling, gothic horror thriller that will have you questioning everything you thought you knew about love, marriage, and the supernatural. The Bride! follows a young woman who arrives at a lavish estate to marry the man of her dreams, only to uncover terrifying secrets about his dark family lineage. As the wedding day draws near, she discovers that the groom's mysterious, unsettling family has twisted plans for her. Trapped in a nightmare of ancient rituals, vengeful spirits, and a shocking, blood-curdling truth, she must fight to escape the haunting legacy that’s been passed down through generations.

6. Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy

The fourth instalment in the beloved Bridget Jones film series opens up a new chapter of Bridget’s life, following how she navigates life as a single mother of two in her fifties. Facing the challenges of dating apps, social media, and the evolving dynamics of romance after the death of her husband Mark Darcy. Oscar-nominated for her portrayal of the iconic, quirky single woman Renée Zellweger stars alongside One Day’s Leo Woodall, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Hugh Grant returns as Daniel Cleaver – Bridget’s divisive old flame. Aptly set to release on Valentine’s Day 2025, this nostalgic reboot promises the same heart, humour, and relatable struggles that fans of the series love.

7. Captain America: Brave New World

Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), who's officially taken up the mantle of Captain America after Steve Rogers’ (Chris Evans) retirement. The film explores Sam’s journey as the new Captain as he finds himself in the middle of an international incident which faces threats to global security. Alongside allies like Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and other familiar faces from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sam must navigate a world that is increasingly divided and full of new dangers, watch as the new Captain tests his strength and ideals.

8. Companion

Set in a dystopian future, sci-fi psychological thriller Companion revolves around a toxic relationship, promising “a rollercoaster of emotions”. Sophie Thatcher of Yellowjackets and Jack Quaid of The Boys star in this illusive film whose plot has been kept under wraps since its announcement. New Line Cinema has released a statement in regards to the movie saying “you are cordially invited to experience a new kind of love story” – and judging by the trailer, it will be just that.

9. Downton Abbey 3

Lovers of historical romance and drama will be thrilled to hear the sequel to Downton Abbey: A New Era is coming to cinemas in 2025. With the show running famously for six years between 2010 and 2015, the historical franchise has garnered a cult following and had fans eagerly awaiting a film sequel since the second movie released in 2019. Paul Giamatti reprises his role as Cora’s England-averse American brother Harold Levinson, alongside Dominic West, Elizabeth McGovern, and Laura Carmichael. While the plot has been kept fairly secret, scores and footage of table readings have been released, and they alone have been enough to spark excitement across the dedicated Downton Abbey fandom.

10. Drop

A pleasant evening is enjoyed by widowed mother Violet (Meghann Fahy) who goes to an upscale restaurant to meet Henry (Brandon Sklenar), her handsome date. Hypnotised by his charm, Violet’s seemingly perfect evening is turned upside down when she begins to receive anonymous text messages threatening to kill her son and sister if she doesn’t kill Henry – the man sitting in front of her. A riveting thriller guaranteed to up your heart rate, Drop will have you questioning your own beliefs as Violet questions hers.

11. F1

Get ready for the high-speed, adrenaline-fuelled thrill ride of the year! Brad Pitt stars in the explosive F1 movie that catapults you into the heart of Formula 1 racing like never before. With jaw-dropping stunts, heart-pounding races, and a behind-the-scenes look at the cutthroat world of elite motorsport, Pitt plays a seasoned driver on the verge of a comeback, battling fierce rivals, personal demons, and the relentless pressure of a sport where one mistake can cost it all.

12. Flowervale Street

Rumored since March 2023, Flowervale Street is set to release in 2025 and the cast and crew’s dedication to keeping its plot a mystery has only kept us more intrigued. The film’s synopsis on IMDB reads “A family in the 80s start to notice bizarre happenings on their neighborhood,” and has been described as a ‘a star-studded action/sci-fi film for IMAX including dinosaurs set in the 80s starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor’. Boy oh boy we can’t wait.

13. Frankenstein

For those who aren’t familiar with the storyline of Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus an 1818 Gothic novel written by English author Mary Shelley – let us familiarise you: Victor Frankenstein grew up in Geneva, Switzerland, with an innate desire to understand how the world worked. This curiosity continued to permeate every inch of his life when he began attending college, experimenting with body parts to create a new life. One mildly successful attempt led to the creation of his ‘creature’ who is better known to the public as ‘Frankenstein’s monster’. Many adaptations have screened since the books' publish date of 1818, but in 2025 we’ll see a fresh rendition of this classic tale. Starring Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Oscar Isaac, and Christopher Waltz and directed by Guillermo del Toro who brought us Pan’s Labryrinth and Hellboy this gothic narrative is sure to be a hit when it hits cinemas in 2025.

14. Freakier Friday

Us? Freaking out? Okay yeah, maybe just a little bit. The original cast of Disney’s Freaky Friday are back years later with just a few new family members added to the mix. We couldn’t be more excited to see Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis reunite on screen, as they discover that lightning can in fact strike twice as they navigate the myriad of challenges that come when two families merge.

15. In The Grey

Brace yourselves for a heart-stopping, high-octane ride in In The Grey—a pulse-pounding thriller that’s about to redefine your expectations of action cinema. Featuring a powerhouse cast, with Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Eiza González, this explosive film plunges you deep into the shadowy world of covert operations, danger, and betrayal. John Gray (Cavill) and Michael Harris (Gyllenhaal) are two elite extraction specialists. Their latest mission? To extract senior negotiator Sophia Rodrigues (González) from the jaws of chaos, and lead her through an escape route fraught with deadly obstacles.

16. M3GAN 2.0

Get ready for the ultimate nightmare to come alive – again. M3GAN 2.0 is here, and this time, the AI doll with a deadly edge is back with a vengeance. After a chilling first chapter, M3GAN has evolved, becoming more intelligent, more unpredictable, and more terrifying than ever. As she takes her twisted brand of protection to new extremes, no one is safe. With mind-bending technology, a thirst for control, and an insatiable drive to protect her "family" at any cost, M3GAN 2.0 promises to push the boundaries of horror and tech in ways you never saw coming. Hold on tight – this is going to be one wild, terrifying ride!

17. Mickey 17

Feel like you’ve heard of this movie many times before? You have. It’s been set to release for over a year now but has finally been confirmed to screen in early 2025. Starring GQ’s ‘world’s most attractive man’, also known as Twilight’s ‘heartthrob’ Robert Pattinson. This dystopian tale follows a ‘disposable’ employee who is sent on a human expedition to colonise the ice world Niflheim, but after one unsuccessful attempt, a new iteration of the employee's body is regenerated – keeping most of his memories intact.

18. Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning

Real life stunts performed by Tom Cruise? Yep. He’s back with The direct sequel to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, the eighth and final movie in the Mission Impossible series. Watch Cruise scuba dive and explore a wrecked submarine, see him fly and fall out of a biplane, and do a heck of a lot of running. Angela Bassett is also revealed to be back as CIA Director Erika Sloane, after she first appeared in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. Whether you’re new to the action-packed series or consider yourself a seasoned veteran, there’s no reason to not be eagerly awaiting this epic saga’s finale.

19. Paddington in Peru

If his cute furry face, blue coat and red hat aren’t convincing enough to see the third film in the beloved Paddington series, would the fact that he’s returning to Peru to find his Aunty Lucy be enough to get you there? The action-comedy starts in the UK, where Paddington lives with his adopted family, who decide to visit Paddington’s Aunt overseas. However, unforeseen circumstances lead them down a different path, one that takes them through the treacherous Amazon rainforest and mountains of Peru. Will they make it out okay? Will they find Paddington’s Aunt Lucy? Will Paddington have enough marmalade sandwiches to get him through? All questions will be answered when the film is released on January 1, 2025.

20. Sinners

When twin brothers return to their small hometown, they hope to leave their dark pasts behind. But something far more sinister lurks in the shadows, waiting for their return. As the lines between the living and the dead begin to blur, they quickly realise that their haunting secrets can never truly be escaped. Starring Michael B. Jordan in a dual role, along with Hailee Steinfeld, Wunmi Mosaku, and Jack O'Connell, this gripping supernatural thriller will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

21. Snow White

For anyone who’s more musically inclined, the 2025 rendition of Disney’s Snow White will be the fantasy singalong movie of your dreams. The live action adaptation of the 1937 animated film stars Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, making the lineup enough of a reason to go see it in cinemas. If you need more convincing though, the star-studded film is based on a screenplay from the mastermind behind the Barbie movie, Greta Gerwig – so expect choreographed dancing, a witty script, and just a little less pink.

22. Snow White and the Evil Queen

If you think you’re seeing double, you’re not alone – and you’re not wrong either! Along with the release of the fantasy musical Disney tale, there will be another rendition with the same amount of fantasy, less singing, and a whole lot more drama. Snow White and the Evil Queen stars Brett Cooper as Miss White herself. Described as “a story about a princess and a prince, about beauty and vanity, about love and its power to raise us from death to life. It’s our own adaptation of an ancient fairy tale” this take on the famous story is expected to arrive in March 2025.

23. Verona’s Romeo & Juliet

Based on the real story that inspired Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Verona’s Romeo & Juliet is set in 1301 and follows the greatest love story of all time but this time, with a twist. Verona’s Romeo & Juliet will be performed as a pop musical, leaving the original poetry of iambic pentameter behind. Directed by Timothy Scott Bogart and starring Clara Rugaard (Love Gets A Room) as Juliet, Jamie Ward (His Dark Materials) as Romeo, and Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect) and Rupert Everett (My Policeman) as Lady and Lord Capulet, we know we’re in for a heartbreaking sing-along time when this musical drama hits the screens.

24. Wake Up Dead Man

A sequel to 2019 mystery/thriller Knives Out, where a crime novelist is found dead after his 85th birthday celebrations. As detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) begins to unpack the case, a series of sinister intentions carried out by those in attendance to his last hoo-rah are revealed. Wake Up Dead Man is the third film in the Knives Out series, and follows Blanc as he unravels a brand new murder mystery in an undisclosed setting, surrounded by a colourful new cast of suspects with unsuspecting connections to the case.

25. Wicked: Part Two

If you haven't had the pleasure of watching the first part of award-winning-broadway-performance-turned-critically-acclaimed-major-movie Wicked – then please, pause reading this article and come back after you’ve seen Part One. Starring Ariana Grande as the perfectly pink Good Witch Glinda, and Cynthia Erivo as the misunderstood Elphaba, Part Two of this moving story carries on from where viewers left off, continuing to recount the events that transpired in the leadup to the ending of the first film. Warm up your vocal chords and get out your finest green face paint, we predict pandemonium when this film is released.

26. Wolfman

Christopher Abbott (Girls) stars as Blake alongside Julia Garner (Ozark) in Wolfman, a harrowing horror/drama screening in 2025. During a desperate escape after being attacked by an unseen animal Blake and his family barricade themselves inside a farmhouse to protect themselves as the illusive creature circles the perimeter. As the horrifying evening stretches on, Blake starts to exhibit odd behaviours, transforming himself into something recognisable that soon becomes a threat to his wife and daughter.

27. 28 Years Later

If post-apocalyptic horror films aren’t your thing, the third instalment overall in the 28 Days Later film series starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Cillian Murphy, Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes might just change your mind. Directed by Danny Taylor who is responsible for bringing the first two films of the series to life – along with critically acclaimed Oppenheimer. The film follows Jim who wakes up from a coma following a zombie outbreak. Unlike the sluggish and stumbling zombies that are usually portrayed on screen, the dead in 28 Years Later sprint and scream while chasing survivors – scared yet?
